Guangdong Dongguan's toy industry, closely co-operating with Hong Kong, has now expanded to include more than four thousand factories manufacturing toys, taking up half the market share of all of China's toy manufacturers and has become the world's largest toy producing city.
China is the world's biggest toy manufacturer and exporter, with nearly 8,000 toy enterprises producing three-quarters of the entire world's toys inside China. Currently, more than half of these toymakers are located in Dongguan. Initially funded by Hong Kong capital that set up factories, the industry has moved gradually from supplying raw materials and production factors to Hong Kong's toy industry to creating its own independent brands, realizing specialized and expanded local production. In the recent years, Dongguan added more than 500 toy manufacturers each year on average.
Currently, Dongguan's toy enterprises generate half of their orders from overseas. World renowned Disney, Blue Cat and other international toy brands have all come to Dongguan to produce their merchandise, enabling Dongguan's toy industry to assume world leading manufacturing scale and technical know-how and to ship more than 60% of its output to foreign markets.
About 90 percent of the toys produced in Dongguan are exported, according to a report from the city's administrative department. China manufacturers about 70 percent of the toys on the global market, and 30 percent of those come from Dongguan. Hong Kong-invested toy companies comprise 80 percent of all toy manufacturers in Dongguan.
