The Tianjin geothermal field is a typical low-temperature system, which is located in the middle-lower reaches of the Haihe River System on the North China plain. The reservoir in bed rock is the main developing aquifer.
The geothermal resources in Tianjin are characterized by shallow deposit place and fine water quality with the total geothermal water reserves of 110.36 billion cubic meters. This geothermal source is the largest medium-and-low temperature geothermal field ever discovered in China.
The underground warm water ranges from 30 to 90 in temperature and, in addition to its excellent quality, the warm water is deposited at a shallow position. In ten areas with geothermal resources worth further prospecting and tapping, the total hot water reserve amounts to 110.36 billion m3–the largest medium and low-temperature geothermal field in China.
As the first city in geothermal heating in China, Tianjin geothermal heating areas are more than half of that in China. Geothermal exploration in Tianjin start in 1970's, Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources invested 80 million yuan RMB IN 1980's; In 1990's, invested by market for geothermal exploration and development; After 2000 Zhouliangzhuang and Wanjiamatou geothermal fields have been explored; At present, in Tianjin, there have 314 geothermal well were drilled, hot water production is 25,838*10³m³, of which, there have 12,000*10³m³ use geothermal for heating, 100*10³ families use geothermal hot water.
