Pinghu City is situated in the Yangtze Delta of east China and the northeast part of Zhejiang Province, with Shanghai in its east and Hangzhou Bay at its south. Ginger is Pinghu’s traditional specialty with a long history of growing. Among various areas of Pinghu, Danghu Town produces the best ginger with Hongzhua as the main breed.
Hongzhua ginger, also named Lotus Flower ginger, is regarded as the best breed for its crispy and tender flesh, low content of fibre, hot, spicy and tasty flavor. It can be served both raw and cooked and tastes delicious no matter how it’s fresh or pickled. The good quality makes it the preferred ginger breed for making pickles in Yangtze Delta region all through the ages.
In recent years Danghu Town injects more investment into the production of Hongzhua ginger. Hongzhua Brand was registered. Technological rules were worked out in producing non-contaminated ginger. Quality standards of non-contaminated ginger products were also worked out. All these efforts brought Hongzhua ginger the honor of being listed twice as high quality agricultural product in 2001 and 2002 Zhejiang Provincial Agriculture Exposition.
